Hey all, on the hunt for more unobtanium. I'm rebuilding my 79 NA that I call "Pepper" and was wondering if anyone had a source for the compressor bushings? California especially near me is becoming far too hot in summers without AC. I've tried using the best bushings that I could salvage from my spare AC parts but it still pulls terribly out of line. Starting to think how I can fix this without the bushings but want to try and stay out of that rabbit hole if I can. Also I'm not sure if my photo sharing method will work but It's about time I post a picture of Pepper on here.
Cheers,
Malcolm

I'm not really familiar with the parts. I have the brackets with bushings that hold the Alt/AC, but I sent the bolt with bushings to Bureau13. Your are welcome to have them for cost of shipping. Send me your email and I'll send a pic. _________________ Mike

Hey mike, they are the rubber bushings in the brackets that are usually completely destroyed if original like all of mine sadly. I deeply appreciate the offer but I have more then enough brackets and old bushings. Was just hoping to get a good set of bushings as my pulley is very very off line due to them being worn. _________________ 1980 931 "Salt" Bucket wannabe racer (Dreaming)

If you don't have the facilities at home, then why not go to a local machine shop and have bushings made from brass or bronze?
On the 931 style application, I simply had a tube of brass, press-fit into the two opposing receptacles to provide a solid mount. _________________ 80/81 932/8 ROW |

This is similarly along the lines of what I'm thinking but was hoping I was going to be able to find some remanufactured or something idk. My goal is to keep the car as original as possible but AC is a must and I'm tired of waiting. Appears I shall be diving down the rabbit hole, I'll probably make a youtube video of it for others down road with same issue. My only real concern and this might be the 50% German in me but, with solid mounts should I be worried about the added vibration to the AC comp? I mean it's better than not having AC lol. I tend to overthink everything 10x and then think about it 1 more time and this is just another example.
Cheers,

You might try Kanter products. They are on the web. WWW.Kanter.com
They make tons of suspension parts for cars new and old and some other makes. You may have to send them a photo and drawing with dimensions but they make polyurethane bushings and they will last. They mostly deal with older US cars but it would not hurt to look at them (online catalog) or contact them with what you want. |
