do our 2.0 rods have any sort of offset. can they be installed either direction?

Yes, I remember them always being installed one direction, with the ID number (matching 3-digit number on both cap and rod) facing all the same direction. But I can't recall which direction. Though I don't know about them being offset.

I always put them n the same way I see in the manuals. The reason I am asking is because I have been hearing done piston slap when cold with tightly fitted hypereutectic pistons from a air cooled beetle. I naturally put the pistons in with the arrows toward the front which I learned is opposite on the rear facing beetle engibe. This puts the piston offset on the wrong side. I was thinking of dropping the pan and spinning them. Looks like I’m gonna probably just pull the head and spin everything. Every hot rider guy I’ve talked to does this on the v8’s purposefully but our engines have different rod ratios and absolutely no quench which I believes causes the pistons to rock more as the flame front is not directed towards the center of the combustion chamber.
