I have a bit of leakage coming from the back of the head. can't exactly tell where as the Distributor housing had a full coating of oil and dirt.
What are the usual leakage points? The joint between the Dist and the housing looked wet, but theres no O-ring on these.
I think I replaced the Valve cover gaskets? _________________ It was either this or a giant box of legos |

Ah, so many spots - not the best part of the design. Yes, the back corners of the valve cover gasket is possible, also the distributor housing as it bolts to the head... but also the distributor itself where it slips into that housing, should have a round paper gasket that's pretty weak. But the biggest most likely is the oil pressure sender port... since it's under pressure, unlike all the rest (excepting crankcase pressure)... _________________ Vaughan Scott

Agreed. I have had to remove it, clean the threads and reinstall. Permatex makes a Hydraulic/Pneumatic sealant that works well on the threads. It takes a spray cleaner also. Its a copy of some stuff made by 3M and Locktite. Traveling so not sure but it might be #8514. Take a wrench of the right size(17mm?) and cut it down to about 3" long. Its not a fun job. One time I just took the distributor out and mad it much easier. _________________ Mike

Agree with the gents above. Just pull the dissy and seal everything unless you can definitively identify where the leak is. _________________ 80/81 932/8 ROW |
