I noticed that my 1988 924s came without a rear sway bar from the factory. Why is this? I am thinking of adding poly front sway bar bushings. Car has new bilstein shocks with stock springs. Car is mostly street driven, planning on beginning hpde. Do I need a rear sway bar or does this not suit this car? Ger. |

it was always an option to equip front and rear bars. imho they handle fine without it if you are using otherwise stock suspension and tire sizes. _________________ ive saved alot of 924's

Even with front and rear bars they are really softly sprung when pushed hard. It's not very hard to fit one at the rear either. But if you go for the effort maybe some thicker bars front and rear could be a good idea if you can find any nearby from a 944 turbo/968 or similar. A 19mm rear adjustable bar is even pretty cheap as a new item, if you cam find a decent match for the front. Im not sure how it is on the S, but i think the front sway bar could be the 21mm (smallest). _________________ 1980 924 Turbo

Any pair of "matched" 944 sway bars gives a noticeable improvement in roll, cornering and turn-in (the 944 was such a heavier car). These beneits at the expense of (some) suspension compliance.
I run the 944 S2 sway bars on my '81 NA and the the difference is huge - most passengers think it's too much! For general driving on less than perfect roads, I think the standard 944 sways make for a good compromise. _________________ '81 Porsche 924 NA
