The intermittent wipers are about to drive me off the deep end

I believe the issue is in the steering column switch itself. just moving the selector to the first detent yields nothing, second and third detent (slow and fast) work normally.
In the first detent position if I pull the lever towards me just a little (not enough to activate the washers) the intermittent will work perfectly.
I've replaced the switch, replaced the relay, checked all the wiring/plugs, even cleaned the contacts and checked that all springs are present on the replacement switch and still no intermittent joy

Any suggestions?
TIA

I have had this issue with replacement relays at least twice. They work briefly and burn out within a couple months, yielding the symptoms you describe exactly.

I have had some experience with this. If you look in the crack between the steering wheel and the hub, from the top, you will see a small metal tab. You need to bend it a little bit so it makes contact. Just bend it a little at a time until you get it right. No need to remove the wheel, just use a screw driver.Good Luck
