My fuel pump relay doesn't to anything when i turn the key to the on position, so I removed the fuel pump relay cover and plugged the relay back into the fuse block. Then I closed the contacts with a screwdriver. The pump then came on. So my question is, could the relay be bad or is it something before the relay that's broken, that's not causing the relay to close the contacts and turn on the fuel pump?

I also forgot to add that when I pour gas into the intake and start it, it runs good until the poured gas is used up. So it does have spark, air, etc.

Fuel pump relays do go bad in these cars. If you search "fuel pump relay" you'll find lots of discussion and a procedure on how to bypass the relay by with a jumper between two socket pins.

With my car the problem was intermittent. The soldering at pin 87 failed.

I've learned that it's a good idea to keep a spare relay in your glove box. Good luck.
