|
|
Hey all, the fuel tank removal on my 924 is well underway. I removed the transmission this weekend. (I even managed to get the plastic tube out without breaking it). But when I removed the bolts on the mounts and vibration dampers, I noticed they were cracked. Images: https://imgur.com/a/M0139Bg
I found the part numbers and the washers in the catalog. Do you all recommend sourcing OEM bolts, or can I use any hex-head M10 x 25 bolt? The thread is unspecified, which seems like a possible problem. All the stores in Ontario are in lockdown so I have to order everything online. I could just order straight from Pelican Parts but I don't want to pay $50 in shipping and customs for $15 worth of bolts.
I also see there are two washers on the original bolts, but only one washer listed in the catalog. How do I find the second washer, if it matters? _________________ George

I don't think they are cracked, but are supposed to look like that with a "missing piece". They also taper a bit to make them not cross thread as easy. _________________ /Magnus, Stockholm Sweden

Oh, that's interesting. I had a weird feeling because they both looked like almost perfect ΒΌ circles cut out of the bolt, but they didn't look perfect enough to be factory to me.
For what its worth, it looks like the replacement bolt on Pelican Parts don't have that cut out. Pulled the part numbers from Illustration 312-00 in the 924 80-85 catalog.
N 010 254 6 - Hexagon-head bolt M 10 X 25
N 010 254 F - Hexagon-head bolt M 10 X 25
(Very annoying, the bolt images appear in my cart and on searching the part number but not on the actual product details page, these are the images I can see from the cart)

If both looks the same its a good inication that they are supposed to be like that. Also the looks to still be the goldish plating till on the threads and cut out.
The cut out would help with clearing out any debris from the treads and also fix minor damage to the threads. _________________ /Magnus, Stockholm Sweden

Appreciate the advice. I will clean up and reuse my bolts with the cut out chunks. _________________ George

Regarding the transmission mount bolts, you could go with OEM if available, but for M10 x 25 hex-head bolts, you should be fine with a good hardware store option |
