Has anyone attempted to put the ignition module from a Ford Escort into the module of the 924.I believe that it is possible with minimal wiring alterations whilst keeping it mounted within the original casing.

why would you want to do that?

I like my ignition system. It does it's work perfectly. I upgraded it _with_ the Jacobs system and it does help with everything it promises. I believe in the Jacobs electronic ignition system and think it is _a_ great way to go. There are distributorless ignition systems you can get as well.

An original porsche [sparkbox] costs £185 plus. The ford escort £30 if that ,whilst still retaining the correct timing characteristics of the original porsche system.It is a cheap alternative to an otherwise expensive part.

if you are after a replacement, try lodge sports based in gorton, manchester uk
they specialise in new/used/refurbished 924 parts I dont have the number but if you can't get it from directory enquires put another posting up and I will get the number to you

with proper care and not using the hammer to much you should almost never have a problem with the ignition module

I have an 1980 125bhp 5 sp
the distributor coil went open circuit after the engine got hot, and cut out for an hour.
While trying to find the cause I replaced the bosch? ignition unit down by the headlamp with
one from a METRO (Lucas) from my scrap tins of odds an ends'. after consulting withe the local motorist shop's ignition parts manuals, I connected it to the Porsche and it worked first go! (well after getting my HTs back in the right order)
Unfortunately, the fault persisted, and it was only after replacing the coil as well that I did a test...
While the ignition was dead (usually for an hour) I quickly removed the distributor, and ran the base under a cold tap to cool it off. thenI replaced it (having lined up my timing by scratches made). It cured the problem-so I realised it must be the distributor!!
I had Lucas replace it for £40 and it cured it
