Well yesturday was our second rally in the 88 944 (sorry not a 924, but I need help & thought your experience might be of assistance). This time we were more prepared... brought 2 full size spares. Drove on some used winter tires mounted to 15x7 telephones dials.

WE HAVE A MAJOR PROBLEM THOUGH. Need your help please. The amount of dust entering the cab is terrible! It seems to coming through the doors... has anyone dealt with this? It's too much... I thought the heater needed cabin filters installed, so I did that this time but it's still coming into the cab & is choking us out. Sucks... what is the solution? I have the fan on recycle during these rallies. The dust is being kicked up & sucked in by our own automobile.

These gravel roads have so much gravel I even tagged the oil pan with a pile of gravel on a "main road". Seen is Drumheller, AB where the dinosaur's bone are. Very neat place.

Well since you took out the interior or most of it..its difficult to say.
You might have unpluged some stuff in the firewall...or the side skirt panels are rusty and then dust goes into the cabin because of missing rear panels.
Also...do you have the door seals properly installed?

See those vents in the front edge of the doors. They are designed to draw air in to the doors, vent thorough the holes that aligned at the back of the door and into the rear quarter panels and then up into the rear hatch glass area. If any panel has been removed from door or rear quarter, then there's your dust ingress issue right there.

In addition, any gaps in the door glass will also suck in dust pronto

Thank you for explaining this... I have been confused "why the hell is there ventilation before & after the door". But this makes sense.

Mid way through this rally I taped off the holes in the doors, but that didn't help near as much as we hoped.

Add back the rear quarter panels and the rear luggage area mats..that should improve things a bit.

Very funny. Beggers can't be choosers.

I have just heard back from a few locals who support your answers to build positive pressure with a HOOD VENT/ HOOD SCOOP. And to seal up the doors (plastic was removed).

Not cheap!

The guy who won the National 2 wheel drive championship (in a wickedly prepped 68 911 I might add ) sent me this link. This would do the trick, but isn't sexy:

Take a look at the Tuthill prepared Safari Rally 911's. They will have everything covered in those

Now look at what you did Carrera RSR. After following your lead I am now hooked. Even if I never drive it, I just really enjoy watching this rally! SAFARI RALLY.

But I think I'd LOVE to race it one day. The 911s look so at home, but I think a 924 would be happy there also.

ENJOY! Don't let the long intro fool you, there is MUCH excellent footage here:
