Hi guys,
I just noticed that our most used used car website changed their way handling not roadworthy cars (i've been thinking that it's strange how they're missing completely), and was surprised when i found out that there are couple super cheap 924's there.
The one that i'm looking at is a 77' model, last time driven in 2002. It's a bit trashy looking, but the engine sounds very good in the video the seller posted.
I was thinking about picking her up as a winter car, and i'd just like to know how much does it differ from my '85? Does it have points ignition? |

The very early cars had a different cam profile, smaller valves, and points ignition...at least here in the US. I'm not 100% certain in Europe, as the Porsche tech specs booklet indicates the same power output throughout the ROW run from 76-85, which seems a bit hard to believe if the ROW cars had the same lame-a$$ head as the one in the US. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

After looking through all of the 924 PET files, it appears that the lame-o cam profile for 77 was unique to the US 77 model. So that being the case, the only difference for ROW cars appears to be the points-based ignition, which according to PET would have been in the 76-79 ROW cars. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

Another thing i figured out by googling is the transmission. 4 gear audi based vs 5 gear one.
Since i'm moving to edis on my 85 i think that i'll move the never ignition system to this 77. |

If the 77 is the same as the 76 almost everything differs, the early car feels like pre series cars. Body, suspension, electronics, injection etc, almost everything is a little different to thr late cars. They are lighter but noisier than the later cars, probably due to the simple and rigidly installed rear axle, and less insulation. But from a driving perspective very sinilar. Best performance modification except for suspension is changing to a 5 spd, makes a great difference. _________________ 1980 924 Turbo
