Hello
Im James, I have recently bought a Porsche 924 as my first restoration project. The car came with no fuel pump, so I have bought a new one, but after a bit of research I have found out that it should have an accumulator. I was wondering if you could please confirm that this is true??
I have also got a rusty fuel tank and I am unsure on the best way to clean it, has anyone got any ideas??
and I am unable to get power to the fuel pump, Im thinking the relay but has anyone got any other ideas??

Hi James,
What year is your car?
The older ones had two small units, as the younger ones have a single accumulator unit.
They are not cheap…
You can download the appropriate PET* that goes with your UK 924 through porsche dot com.

*Porsche Ersatz Teile Katalog = Porsche Genuine Parts Catalogue

The top of your tank is probably worse.
I took mine back to bare metal and repainted the damn thing.
Last coat was a layer of bitumen; Should be good for years.

Good luck James!
Kind regards,
Harm.

ps. For basic questions the 924.org is a great help.

Hello Harm

Its a 1981 Porsche 924
I have had a look at the cataloger, and presumed from it, that the car was meant to have an accumulator as well.

The rust on the fuel tank is more on the interior that I am worried about.

Thank you
James

Haaa… 1981, a good year, sir. The expensive singel unit it is.
There are epoxy inner-tank-sealers available and DIY ways to get it like new. Google is your friend.
Best way though is to drop it of at a specialist that repairs old fuel tanks. Think £££ ?
