Hey guys I'm wondering if the same head bolts from the NA models will work in the turbo'd cars. I'm having a hard time finding a set for the turbo or at least no one is specifying that they are different except for Auto Atlanta, who is showing each bolt to be $7 while for the non turbo its apparently only $1.50 a piece.

I also read how the turbo has a different method for torquing the head bolts so I want to know if im gonna have to dish out the cash or if NA bolts will work. Thanks guys.

I've found in the online Haynes manual that the change from the 6 point allen bolts to the 12 point was made in 1980, but not all the 80 cars (turbos included im assuming) got the 12 point ones because the factory wanted to use up their supply of the 6 point ones. No one knows anything about the interchangeability on these bolts?

Same bolts. I've only seen the 12-point / triple-square bolts on very early cars. All of the engines I've disassembled except one had the Allen head bolts.

Do not order for Automobile Atlanta. Use EBS, Pelican, or AutoHausAZ.

I know, I used to order from them for my 928, but stopped shortly after. I use them for part number reference and a visual for parts.

So I can go ahead and get a set of head bolts for an NA engine and just use the turbo torque method?

Yes. Torque method is the same (sequence, three-stage tightening), but the torque values are different.

What are the values if you don't mind

EDIT: I think I found it, can you confirm this?

If this is an exact transcript from the tech specs booklet (which I don't currently have handy), then YES, it is correct:

TIGHTENING SPECIFICATIONS FOR CYLINDER HEAD BOLTS - 924 TURBO

1. Tighten cylinder head bolts in prescribed sequence, in stages, to 40Nm, 80Nm and 110Nm.

2. Retighten cylinder head bolts after at least 60 minutes (to allow for setting of cylinder head). To do so, loosen bolt no. 1 (see tightening sequence) approx. 1/2 a turn and tighten to 110Nm. Repeat this procedure with the remaining bolts in the prescribed sequence.

Bring engine up to operating temperature (oil temperature approx. 80°C). Allow engine to cool and give cylinder head bolts a final tightening as described under 2.
