|

While cutting up our white 1979 Porsche 924 we decided to abandon that project due to heavy corrosion. It really sucks that pre 80 924 aren't galvanized.
http://www.924board.org/viewtopic.php?t=39694&start=0&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=
But the big game changer for us leaving the project was that we found a pale yellow 924 in a car park. We noticed that the car has stood there for ages due to the heavy vegetation around it.
We took a look at it and it looked to be in a really good shape.
After a quick check on the license number we could extract the owners phone number so just for fun we called the owner and asked if he was willing to sell it. He answered that the clutch was broken due to freezing? It sounded weird but he was willing to sell it for just 300$ We took it!
Since 2007 the porsche has stood still so we hope that the engine starts!
The interior is in good condition.
The service book is well filled with stamps This car has been serviced in Germany and at Porsche Center in Sweden.
The engine is full of moss haha.
Time for towing!
The brakes were hardly stuck at all after all these years.
Time for a little washing!
Now it looks a little better.
Even the sunroof-cover included!
For 300 bucks we think that this is barn find even if the clutch is said to be broken, we want to test that for ourselves first because a damaged clutch due to freezing sounds weird.
Our next step is to fill up some gas and try start the engine so that we can analyze all the problems before we lift out the engine for some service & tuning. _________________ Our 1983 Porsche 924 project: http://www.924board.org/viewtopic.php?p=364034#364034 |

Good luck. _________________ Ian Edgerly

Good luck tackling the next hurdle:

Before we can do anything we had to get rid of the white one because of limited space.
We took some parts before wrecking!
Instruments
Headlight pop-up motors.
Radiator
Master cylinder. I know that our new one uses a bigger cylinder but may come in use.
Crackfree black dash!
Fuel pump may come in handy.
Looking sad...
We have a lot of parts!
The tow truck arrives.
Good bye!

That car looks amazing for 300 bucks. Looks much better than my 500 dollar 924. I would highly recommend cleaning out the fuel tank and maybe feeding the engine off of an external tank at first so that you don't contaminate the filters+injectors+ fuel pump (s). _________________ 924, 82, 5 speed, dark red, 500 dollar special.

Trying to start the old 924 today. For 7 years it has not been started.
First removed the fuel filter to see if it flows any fuel... Dry as bone.
Made a jumper for the fuel pump relay. Still no fuel.
Found suspicious cables under the steering wheel.
It's an old swedish car alarm! Terrible! So much cables!
Removed every trace of the alarm including the ultra sound microphones that senses if any car window is smashed to pieces.
Took the original wires and coupled them again. But it still won't start!
Removed back wheel to access the fuel pump.
The fuel pump is dead! No life.
So we took the old fuel pump from the white 924.
Now it started!

We filled up some brake fluid before the first test drive.
But we could instantly see that all the fluid ran down on the floor due to a broken brake line.
But we took a little test drive anyways, the handbrake works

The clutch that the previous owner said was broken seems to work so thats a nice surprise but the engine runs a little hot, but that should be fixed after the engine renovation.
