If the Retard Connector on the drivers side fender well is disconnected, then a 7 degree difference should be seen on timing if I understand correctly.
If the 7 degree difference is NOT present, then does this mean that the Timing Control Unit is bad? |

Not necessarily.
The ignition will only be retarded under specific conditions (primarily temperature, and engine speed).
If the ignition is not retard by about 7 degrees when the wire is disconnected, you could have a defective temperature sensor or other component. |
