Ignition Retard Connector

81-931

If the Retard Connector on the drivers side fender well is disconnected, then a 7 degree difference should be seen on timing if I understand correctly.

If the 7 degree difference is NOT present, then does this mean that the Timing Control Unit is bad?

Not necessarily.

The ignition will only be retarded under specific conditions (primarily temperature, and engine speed).

If the ignition is not retard by about 7 degrees when the wire is disconnected, you could have a defective temperature sensor or other component.
