Can a 944 electric mirror and motor with the twist type glass and motor be mounted to a 924 metal frame of the old three plug type?

My drivers side motor is kaput and is of the three plug type. I have the chance to get a 944 mirror with the twist type but the metal frame is a different colour and so I was hoping to keep the metal frame and just swap motors and mirror. Current mirror is cracked anyway.

Cheers

David

If I am understanding you correctly, you are talking about the 1985.5 mirrors where you can remove the glass by twisting a mechanism at the bottom of the housing? If so, the glass in these mirrors are much larger than those of the 924 and early 944.

I hope that helps.

But if I am wanting to change the black plastic part, motor and mirror only, basically everything but the metal frame which bolts to the car, can I get away with putting all this onto the older metal frame?

I don't think so, I believe the entire assembly; (housing and all) is larger on later cars.

That's a shame. Would have made life easier and cheaper. Thanks for your help.

No problem... I've been down that road before. I had a early 944 sitting around and tried to use that mirror on my 924S, but it was much smaller and wouldn't work.
