With the shift in neutral with emergency brake on (in case the car were to start), remove a spark plug and re-attach the wire and with your hand insulated, hold wire and plug so that the tip of the plug about 3 mm (1/8 in) from ground.
When a buddy cranks the engine, do you see a strong blue spark?
If you haven't done so already you might check for excessive resistances in distributor cap, rotor, ignition wires.
Check the voltage between terminal 15 of the ignition coil and ground with the ignition switch on to verify it's 5 or more volts. If not it's possible the ignition control unit is at fault. Tests of the ignition control unit itself are outlined in the Hanes Manual which I think is an essential and relatively inexpensive requirement for working on these cars. |
