2.0 n/a question guys: Is there is any reason why you could not replace the steel upper radiator hose with a rubber one?

One reason might be upper hoses inexactly positioned are sometimes worn by other moving parts such as fan blades or the radiator pulley.

do you think that the suction of the pump will cause the hose to collapse?

I don't know -- but you you're undoubtedly right since brand new hoses are quite pliable by hand.

Pump pushes water through that hose, not sucking through it. Lower hose has the suction and some hoses are built with a spring inside to prevent those issues.
I can't imagine there would be a huge issue, just make sure it is mounted securely and away from moving items that could cut it. _________________ Stefan
