The raised black rubber? rubbing strip or moulding which runs down both sides of the car is badly chipped/marked and I would really like to take it off and repaint it. Can someone tell me how it is actually attached to the body before I make a complete mess of it taking it off?
Thanks

It's attached with some Uber Factory Glue! I used a heat gun to remove mine. Some can be pulled by hand sans heat gun, but DON'T use a putty knife! Paint loss can be the result. Sigh. _________________ '83 944 Track car.

I would recommend plasti dipping your strips. I did my factory body bumber strips and the look great now. Once can of black will do but you will like it so much that you will start dipping more, I would bet. best part is you dont have to take them off so no risk of damaging paint. Also, the strips have a small metal strip inside them that bends very easily, I doubt you can take them all off without damaging them.
I ended up dipping my strips, door handles, windshield and window trim, spoiler, all wiper arms. Its easy to keep going. Ill post pics soon _________________ '80 924 M471,Wideband O2, Full coilover susp,23/19 sways,Bilstiens,KLA Strut Brace,Roll Bar,Test Pipe,BBS RS, Willwood BBK

Thanks for this. Taking them off does sound a bit risky. I have never heard of Plasti-dip before but I see it is available here, so I will give it a go. For some reason the rest of the exterior is great on my car but the strips look like rubbish. _________________ 1979 Porsche 924 Turbo

Looks brilliant. I ahve now got a can of the stuff. All I need is the time to put it on. I will post photos of how it all comes out. _________________ 1979 Porsche 924 Turbo

i would roughly tape off everything 1" past the strips. The dip can be rubbed/peeled off but like all spray paint it can splatter/overspray. I found that when enough of the product is sprayed onto the body it peels off easily but the little specks of overspray do not come off easily (a little elbow grease makes those little spots off but it takes time+effort). watch out for anything rubber/porous as it wont come off of those surfaces. I didnt sand the body strips, just washed the car thoroughly. _________________ '80 924 M471,Wideband O2, Full coilover susp,23/19 sways,Bilstiens,KLA Strut Brace,Roll Bar,Test Pipe,BBS RS, Willwood BBK
