Next project is to replace the 996/boxster wheels with the 993 cup wheels.
I've always liked wide tires on the rears but i think they are not optimal for our balanced cars and i think all they do is to cause understeer.
I'm thinking of using 225/45/17 tires on 9" 993 Cup wheels on all four corners.

Any concerns? perhaps for the fronts? on the rears i know for sure i can fit them and they wont cause any problems..
I have coilovers on the fronts so the diameter of the spring is reduced, i also plan to offset the wheel to be flush with the fender.

I dont have the 993 cups yet, i'm looking to sell my OZ Futura wheels and then buy the 993 cups, or trade the futuras for the cups.
So...anybody wants a set of nice OZ Futura?

left is my car with the actual wheels, right is a 951 with the wheels i want...they appear to be 9" all around but i cant be sure.

Nice! I think the 951/S2 racers sqeeze in 265 tyres up front, you will probably have loads of space You are correct, there is no reason to have lots of rubbers at the rear and skinny at the front (not on these cars). More rubber at the front equals to better bite and better grip, but it might be tough without power steering ?

225 is too narrow for 17x9 wheel, it barely fits 16x9 on which it is higher profile.
On 17x9 you need at least 235 to get a decent fit.

I'm expecting some stretch..and i did not test fit the 225s on the 9s but here was my thinking:

-A 9" rim has ~228mm from sealing wall to sealing wall.
-A 225 tire has a 225mm width and the sealing surface is approx ~10mm tucked in on each side. so 205mm

When using 225 tires on 9" wheels the tire wall will stretch ~10mm on each side to touch the rim.

i have a spare 225 tire at home, i'll test fit it to one of the rims when i get back from holiday...but i think you are right...it wont fit right. i'll buy 235s on all corners.

I'll need some sticky street tires that also work great in the rain...which do you guys think is the best tire for this?

here are my D90(on my VW) 8" wide with 205 tires

I have tested all of the combinations and I can assure you that unless you want your Porsche to look like one of those bastardized tuned Golfs that you often can see in Germany with stretch tires, use something wider than 225 or use 7" or 8" fronts

But I have to ask, why 9" rims in front? Unless you will be doing some heavy tracking with killer aero, there is no point in having those on the street, nevertheless without power steering...

I got a nice deal with my oz futura. I took these 4x9" in an exchange plus a pair of seats and some small parts.
I figured i'd get away with 225s..
The main reason i took the 9" is the spacers needed and the looks. I like the 993 cups more than the 996/986 wheels and eith 9" all around i can get away with smaller spacers.

Hi Morghen,

i run the cup wheels on my 944S2.
FRONT.205/50/17 X 7
Rear: 255/40/17 X 19

High gloss black with brand new and shiny black senter caps with coloured Porsche crest.

My car is lowered by techart springs in the front by 3,5 cm.
Also adjusted in the rear. No issues with the wheel size.
No spacers needed for my car.

regards,

Nobbi

This was my inspiration when going for the 9" wheels

I've put the 225/45/17 next to the 9" wheel today...it does not look like its going to fit...but i'm going to install one tire on one wheel, take pictures and at least document that it does not fit

It looks like i need 235 tires all around...but 235/45/17 are too tall...and i think 235/40/17 might be too small.

So...i've tested one damaged tire on the 9" wheel.

I dont really like the way it rounds up but thats mostly because of the design of the tire...other brand/model tires would not look like this.

The guy at the tire shop told me that its not that stretched and there is no danger for it to fail or deflate under any conditions.

On the other hand its not so bad..i expected much more stretch.
And 235 tires are out of the question...40 ones are too small and 45 too big....so its 225/45/17 or 245/40/17... 245 would be too much for the fronts with no power steering.

8" wheels on the fronts sound right...anyone in europe that wants to trade two 8" ET55 cups for two 9" ET70 ones?

What do you guys think?

Yo Morghen. I thought you'd go for some phat-ass 255/40/17's on the rear along with 9" to complement the phat-ass fenders/arches?

Joakim has 255 Cup 1 on rear. Also Raceboy has fitted the same on his cars as well as the 18" turbo twists that had 225 rubber.

You know what Ideola would say - go big or go home
