I am one of those people that likes everything complete and working on a car. I hate it when things are missing or broken. My rear cargo cover was not working right. When I pulled it out...it would not retract properly. I read some threads on how to fix it and after a couple of attempts the results were not 100%. Advice: Just buy a good working one..it is not worth fixing your old one. So I went on eBay and found a brown cargo cover for $50 bucks that worked perfect. Problem was...I needed it to be black.
To remove the old one, there are two screws holding it in against the rear seat back. One at each end of the housing. The screws are hidden away inside the housing. You might need a flashlight to see them. [see red arrow on pic below]
Just put a screwdriver in there and loosen up each screw. The back of the rear seat where it is screwed into is wood.
I then installed the new brown cargo cover. It is a bit fiddly to get each screw back into the exact right hole...so be patient. It might be easier to do it with the rear seat folded down and you can sit inside and get a much better angle on it.
After it was installed, I then pulled the shade open. Next, I got some flat black Dupli-color paint and sprayed the housing and the shade a matte black. The end result was very good. I left the back window open for a couple of hours so it could properly dry. The key here is to do very light back and forth coats. Heavy coats are a big no-no. You can see that the other side is the original brown color.
Now I can sleep better at night.
