Does anyone with a 931 have any info about parts interchange with Audi-VW. I saw one in the links list but it isn't specific about which 924 (turbo, non-turbo, year, etc) to which Audi-VW, especially with regards to year models.

For the big stuff like engine and transaxle parts your stuck with the porsche bits. Some components in the suspension, braking and little peices like interior might swap over to the early 944. If it helps we use the same oil filters as N/A 924's and VW golfs

I thought that the engine was an Audi unit and a bunch of suspension parts are VW-Audi. Some of the car is Porsche, but even on the 951 there are a couple of things that come out of the VW parts bins. What I'm wanting to know is if anyone on the board has done a comprehensive parts cross-reference for these cars, similar to those available for American cars. They're out there, you would have to be a mechanic to know of them though. It sure saves a bunch of money working on say, a Lincoln, to know that Ford and Mercury parts interchange and are frequently much less expensive.

one good start point is a parts catalog. Looking at the first 3 digits of any part number will tell you where it came from.
Anything with a 931, 911, 944, 951, 930 or 928 prefix obviously is a Porsche part (that's not to say that something else won't fit).
Anything else is non-Porsche. The trick is to work out how to decode the non-Porsche prefixes.
Knowing that the engine is Audi, the 046, 047 and 088 parts are probably all Audi parts. From experience the 477 and 171 parts are VW, either Beetle or Golf/Rabbit. 111 parts numbers are usually actual VW part numbers (all the parts I've bought from VW have a 111 prefix). Other numbers are probably generic parts Porsche picked up at the local hardware store.
The fun part comes when you phone VW and ask them about a 477-something. The partsguy just says "that's not a VW part" and hangs up. So you have to ask for a fog light relay from a '76 Super Beetle or Golf with a part number something like 111-963-137 (your parts catalog tells you it's a 477-963-137) act simple. When the guy says "oh yeah, we got those but the part number has changed to blah blah" you've hit paydirt.
Now this isn't the complete answer because if you look at rear axle cv joints for example, they list a 944- part number but we all know that the cvs from a VW Transporter fit and are much stronger.
You also use your parts catalog to find which parts are interchangeable between 924 and 931 so when you need a new front A-arm for your 931 you can see that it's the same part on the 924 and 931 and it's a 477-407-153F which everyone knows is from a VW Golf/Rabbit (except Porsche had swaybar mounts welded to it).
See, easy.

As in the past, if anyone has found a sub for a Porsche part, please send the info to Vaughn. He will post the info to this site.
