So I'm a glutton for punishment...still in the process of parting out the '86 944 Turbo, still need to get to work on "Liebchen" as I haven't done much with her since I got her in January and now this!
Short story version...found this '80 924 NA on CL and bought her. I think the fact that it was white is what got my attention. The PO had her for 10 years and bought her as a non-running project...it's still non running !

Well we'll see what we can do in the upcoming months after the Turbo becomes a planter and "Liebchen" gets some attention. On the plus side the car is pretty solid and rust free and it's white...I did mention the color, right? Maybe it would be fun to build a semi-tribute Barth/Kussmaul rally car...especially since it's already white !

A couple of quick photos are here:

I must confess that I haven't made any progress on this project except to take some more photos:
http://www.ttrstomtatalovichracingservices.com/page24.php
but have still been thinking about the Rally Tribute idea, however I still haven't ruled out parting her out. If it cools down a bit maybe I can summon up the stamina to work out in the Arizona sun to see if I can get her running...it's getting harder to do as I get older since being inside with a Warsteiner is much more appealing!

I will if I part it...but they are not genuine Fuchs...5x130, 6x15 front, 7x15 rear. They are on adaptors as the car is not a factory 5 lug. I haven't measured backspace/offset yet...too hot outside!!!

I will start by saying that I am a 50+ noob. I bought my first porsche 2 years ago. An 87 924S in very similar condition. When I bought it I didn't have the time or money to put into it. Now I have more time and have started shopping for parts and working on it. Every time I get to work on it I fall more in love with it. To hear that you are thinking of parting it out is sad. If it was wrecked or rusty then by all means part it out. If your heart isn't in it please sell it on to someone that will give it some love and care. I hope I haven't offended you with my opinion. Just a guy that loves his 924 even tho I have never driven it yet. Paul

I understand what you're saying and I'm certainly not offended! I've been working on Porsches since 1971 and have a soft spot for the 4 cylinder front engine models, (one reason why is here http://www.ttrstomtatalovichracingservices.com/page17.php), but having said that I'm also a bit pragmatic. Since I'm 'semi-retired" I can always use a few extra bucks and if that means taking an investment and breaking it down from the whole to maximize return then I will if it makes good sense to me. Anyway the jury is still out !

hdrider 19 I'm with you. I also bought my first porsche 2+ years ago and have it in the garage under restoration. This was a car "destined" for the track, partially stripped down, and nearly ended up being hauled to the junkyard. I haven't driven it any more than about 50 feet.

To see a relatively unmolested, complete, rust free 924 get parted is sad.

I know...it's kinda like being in 4H and raising that prize winning...whatever...only to know that it's going to be auctioned off at the county fair and eventually end up on the dining table and then down the toilet...sad indeed .

Seriously though I haven't decided what direction I'm taking with this car but if someone out there feels so strongly about it's preservation I'm more than willing to listen to their argument and more importantly their offer to purchase ! It does have some redeeming features...factory A/C, 944 hatch, mud flaps and rocker covers...

That's just the thing...rust free and damage free. The fact that its a non runner is the easy part right?

I got to hand it to you. I guy that has worked on all the things that to have chose a 924 NA ... I think that answers your question...you want too see it run

BTDT. Good luck with that approach Easy to decry the destruction of another candidate for restoration, not so easy to back it up with money time effort and more money.

Do what makes you happy. It's not like these are particularly rare cars. Better to have it parted by a member of the community for the benefit of the community, than to languish and rot into the ground only to end up being taken to the crusher.

Hahahaha...there are a couple of us who have been around the block once or twice aren't there Dan? We appreciate these cars but we are also realists and have a bit of a history with them. Look, this could be a great car if someone wants to put forth the effort...might even be me...but the bottom line is that it is my decision and if someone wants to come up to me and express their desire to convince me that they could do better...and afford to...then I'll be more than happy to listen and make a deal with them!
Tell you what...I'll put a for sale ad on the board and see what the response is...that's fair, right?
