1982 Porsche 924 non turbo
ok I am still playing with this at this point I just want to get it started so I can paint it and sell it I've had enough of this aggravating car
what I have done so far: empty and clean tank, replace in-tank fuel pump with new, replace external fuel pump , replace filter, replace fuel block dizzy......... next found there is no power to the #2 spot of the aux fuse panel (fuel pump) put a jumper wire form #30 to #87 and can hear pump run I also have power on the #2 fuse in Aux panel but NO power to any of the four wires going to the relay under the dash I DON"T KNOW WHY . With jumper wire installed I can smell gas up at the engine and the car trys to start but immediately dies
I order and installed a new fuel pump relay but does not make any difference . I know if the fuse under the dash is bad car will not run but if I have power at the AUX fuse panel #2 fuse I should have one hot wire at the fuse under the dash but I do NOT
I am looking for some more ideas , other then a stick of dynamite and a match which is under careful consideration at this point _________________ 1982 Porsche 924

Behind the fuse panel where you replaced the realy , make sure all the wires are correctly located in their connector, IE all the pins are through, next make sure the connector is pushed in correctly onto the other side of where the relay plugs into. Might also be a idea to give a little spray of the connector that you had just checked with something like CRC CO Contact Cleaner or the l;ikes that is safe to use with plastics.
There may alos be some earths around there so clean them up as well

Check/clean the connections at the ignition module located at the front of the drivers side fender well. The relay uses a signal from the module to make sure the engine is running before the pump is powered.

If the fuel pump is running when you jumper the pins you referenced, that is enough to start the car should all other systems be working properly. Also, you should know that the fuel pump relay shall not supply power to the fuel pump unless it receives a pulse signal from the ignition system/coil when the engine is cranking or running. This is a safety feature. When you jumper the pins to get the fuel pump to run, it bypasses this safety feature, but you should be aware of it otherwise.
If the car runs when trying to start, and when you let off the start position of the ignition switch dies, check out your ignition switch and/or ignition wiring. Also, running a wire directly from the battery to the coil temporarily to get it started might be a good idea in case the ignition switch is providing power to the coil around the resistor or resistor wire on start, but when falling back to the run position, is not supplying power through the resistor or resistor wire to the coil. _________________ "Never get out of the boat. Had a problem like this on mine. Check the Ohms on both wires from the coil. Also check to see if there is a pulse coming from the dizzy to the relay. This pulse affects both the spark and fuel pump. The procedure is in the FSM and refer to the wiring schematic for which pins. _________________ 1982 Porsche N/A |
