It appears to be the retaininer for the lower end of the fuel sendercb tube it fits into the lower part of the tank in a plastic sub tank thingy, it also has a hole in the side which (i think ) fits the fuel return tube and acts as a stabiliser to stop the sender unit wobbling, Ive got photos but I havent had time to figure out the posting of these. Mongrel of a job to get the return tube back into the hole in the ring. Try it sometime........

You need to get a bent hook to pull the ring thingy into place via the fuel pump holeyou can see it through the sender hole then when you can push it into place from the sender hole and pull with the hook make suer you line up the hole for the return pipe. Was more easy than I thought it would be. oh yes and push the retun pipe back into the retaining hol ein the plastic ring thingy.
