i know. i know. i should've come to the specialists first
so if i can provide this link for background to save a little typing : http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-924-944-968-technical-forum/586126-924-not-starting.html
i found the FI article in the "noob" section, so i made that my first stop prior to posting this.
where i am now is it's not getting fuel to the injectors. is there a secret to priming the system? am i overlooking something else? it's definitely getting plenty-o-fuel to the distributor, but seems like some type of valve is keeping the fuel from going to the injectors.
TIA, Bryan

Manually lift the air meter plate while turning the engine over. If still no results, then CIS piston may be varnished to the point of not moving.

Thank You! i never would've figured that out. it ran for about 10 seconds. i think the priming flooded it, but at least it's getting fuel to the injectors now. once i can get it to run for a few minutes, i'll pull everything apart for a thorough cleaning.
i'll get some pictures up soon. the interior is decent. power mirrors, windows, a/c, automatic transaxle. the body is straight, but the economy paint job is peeling badly. rust on the upper valance and lower front fenders which i can repair. this is going to be a fun project.

Mine sat for 16 years and over that time the center of the air tube running from the fuel distributor to the throttle body formed a crease at one of the straps that was letting air get past. I took the plastic tube and held it over a lit burner on my stove to heat it up and reform it(not on the burner 10 inches or so off and on.) After fixing that it ran super bad and ended up having varnished fuel injectors also. Mine still has some problems but runs well enough to be a daily driver at this point.

i will check that.
so far no change. lifting the air meter did get fuel to the injectors, but it only fired for a few seconds. i removed the injectors to soak them and clean them in a sonic cleaner.
but i'm thinking this isn't going to do the trick. am i looking at a possibility that the accumulator isn't functioning?

Grab a manual, and perform fuel pressure and volume tests. . .this will quickly tell you the condition of pumps, accumulator, and WUR.

Also, a thorough refresh of all intake rubber would likely be very helpful.

I had this exact same problem. Theres a switch on the CIS that kills fuel to the injectors if the car is flipped so you dont die in a firey explosion. However my switch went bad and wouldnt let any fuel go to the injectors except for a quick spurt like you seem to be experiencing.

Take the electrical plug that plugs into the CIS off and run a jumper wire across it then try either lifting the plate by hand or just firing the car. That was my problem and what i did was then cut that plug and soldered a premanant circut there. Now hopefully I dont roll it and die in a firey explosion as mentioned above. :D

SUCCESS!
i went through all of the vacuum hoses. double checked all of the connections. the hose on the boot that goes to the aux air valve is deteriorated, so i temporarily taped it to make a connection and it finally came to life. i think i got pretty lucky, but i'll take it.
the throttle response is poor. it did improve some after running for about 30 minutes. i need to check the timing advance. i think it may be retarded. (the advance mechanism is working freely)

Good to hear of your success; that said, the poor throttle response could also be mixture way off - gonna need to check the fuel pressures.

thanks. you probably have a good point. the fuel pump is beginning to make a horrible whining sound . it started doing it after i shut it down and restarted it after about a half hour rest. oh well. at least i know it runs and i'm more willing to put some money into now.

It's easier than this. Just unplug that connector, you defeat the rollover protection. It's all explained here.
