I have been thinking about making a 924 - 944 into a pickup. Only see one example on the web and a couple of 928 pickup conversions. Any thoughts / potential problems you might think of ?

do you have loads of tools to haul around ? i mean...my M700P and my SVD Dragunov fit nicely into the back of my 924...plus..if i'd carry them in a pickup truck it would rain on them...know what i mean ?

i'm just messing around
other that it will rust where it would have normally not....i think no problems.

PS: my m700 and my svd really do fit into the 924
PS2: somebody already did some similar mods:

buy a Ford Ranger instead. They have more power, last forever, and don't look nearly as stupid as a 924 Ute would. Let someone that actually likes 924s have your's its not like they are making more of them.

Little info to be found on the German 944 pick up truck.

However the dp44 Cargo is still available in Germany:
www.dp-motorsport.de News Details wrote:
dp44 Cargo: Take the last chance
Ekkehard Zimmermann developed the dp44 Cargo in the late 80s.
Ever since that time the interest in this special model has not stopped.
We have taken this as a reason to remake this special edition.

Now - the last five to ten models are available. The conversion kit
consists of the extended hood with fiberglass hatchback, all relevant
construction changes, three windows etc..

The total conversion "ready to go" takes approx. two months, also
includes assembly and painting and costs EUR 18.000,- incl. 19% VAT.

Further modifications on demand.

…The blood stains will blend in nicely
Happy hunting!

Harm,
Thanks for the interest. I was more interested in the open bed pickup like this one -

http://jalopnik.com/163226/had-enough-yet-the-porsche-944amino

or the 928 like this one -

http://s1041.photobucket.com/albums/b411/PurePotHead/?action=view&current=silver-porsche-928-pickup.jpg&sort=ascending

Here is the one I have to make from -
http://mysite.verizon.net/vze124a9s/924.jpg

My thought was to cut and move the rearmost part of the roof and move it forward about 8 inches which would retain the body line more accurately . Would shorten the sunroof as well. Finessing the curves may be a challenge. That was the reason for the post here... For members thoughts on the makeover.

Jim

I still don't understand why. An ineffective truck and butchered sports car combo.

all the pics are of a shooting brake (a two door wagon), not one of a truck conversion.

I would like to have a shooting brake! but a truck conversion doesnt make any sense to me.

Rocco,

The 'brake' images were from other posters, If you follow the links in my earlier response you will see the 'truck' conversions. 944 - 928 .

Hey, a lot of what we do does not ' make sense '

Truck conversion is definitely different. I kinda like it. Would be cool to do. A sporty el Camino.
