Hi All - I hope someone can help. I understand the 924 turbo comes in two different guises - the original and then in 1981 a "series two" model with Siemans-Hartwig digital ignition system with better breathing. My car, which I have been restoring for sometime, I am unsure which model it is.

Details of my car are - Chassis number is 93 Z BN 100273 Engine number is 31030310. It has white instrutments - a 3 column steering wheel and side peater lights on the front mud guards.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

also as an aside what is the best method to get a turbo off the line quickly?

Thanks - John H

Series 2 cars came with white instruments and peater lights. Also your vin code tells it is a 1981 model.

Yes you have an early S2 - probably built in December 1980 or very early 1981. It is the 273rd S2 body built for the 1981 model year. The three spoke steering wheel is off a 930, and was used for ROW RHD S2 932 cars as well. (Maybe in other markets too...not sure)
I assume you mean white markings on a black face? White face dials are an aftermarket transfer or overlay.

Thank you Gentlemen - I really appreciate your help. I am glad it is a S2. Will make the last 2 years hard work more worthwhile - and also probably the next 3 years as well.

Thanks again

If you have a round rather than oval throttle body, this indicates, as least as car left the factory, an S2.

Put in 1st gear rev to about 5000+ rpm and then slide your left foot off the clutch, car will wheelspin and pull max boost then change into second while still wheel spinning- note quick changes into 2nd take a bit of practice.

I've been doing this on the track for years now and found it's the only way to get a 924 turbo of the line quickly - sounds brutal but so far I've yet to break anything.

+1

Try "listening" for sweet whine of the turbo and as soon as you begin to hear it spool up then it's time to release the clutch... it helps keep your eyes on the road and concentrating on what is in front of you rather than watching your rev counter.

Also, another reason for waiting to hear the turbo is to minimize wheel spin... wheel spin looses traction... which looses forward momentum. If done right... you will already have forward movement right before you reach max boost.
On damp tarmac.... the wheel spinning... is great for burning rubber and leaving smoke screens.

Oh... and be prepared to go through a lot of clutches!
