I have just bought an 87 924S with 88,000 miles. The car seems to get hot. I have checked the fuse and relay which are fine and now I am attempting to check the temperature sensor. Do any of you know where I can begin to look for the item that I need to check? Does the electric fan usualy run then the car is turned off? My car does not do this. I have heard the fan run only twice in the three weeks that I have had the car. Once I was going to Boise Idaho and the car started to get really warm, I pulled into a gas station, stopped the car but never heard the fan running. I would appreciate any information. Thanks.

I also have an '87 924S with the same problem. What controls the radiator fans is a thermo switch located just under the radiator hose at the top left corner of the rear side of the radiator. I picked up a new thermo switch for under $20. There are two heat ranges available 87-72 and 97-82 (I think). I installed the lower temp one and find the fans come on when my water temp gauge reaches the middle mark. The fan also continues to run for a few minutes after the motor is shut down. If you do the switch yourself you must unbolt and move the fans out of the way. The thermo switch is 1 1/8" wrench or adjustable. Take warning, the radiator is plastic and very little tightening is needed to strip the threads out. Mine came with striped threads. I cleaned it out really well and used silicon seal on the threads to capture the few remaining threads. This has worked so far, but could be a disaster if it let go and all the coolant was lost. Good luck.
