I've got a same situation but worse lol. Never had a 931 with a bad lifter so... been reading about 928 lifters (944). Never took any interest into how they actually function... I presume they have the same/similar concept? Nobody wants to remove the cam...or cams. Any update?

944/928 lifters are not nearly the same as 924 lifters.

OK, what mechanism (if any) do 924 lifters use? Is entirely hydraulic?

924 lifters are purely mechanical, the tip of the valve stem makes direct mechanical contact with the lifter adjust screw, which is used to adjust the clearance.

Why not pop off your valve cover and take a look? Roll up the sleeves, get your hands dirty, and report back? Better than sponging others' R&D!

Besides, my my tappet issue(s) are for hyraulic lifters and thier relationship to oil supply/pressure. OT so no need to report back here.
