Welcome to the wonderful world of the 924. As the fuel related problems and many possible solutions are already well documented here, I'd suggest you try running a search, using the search option at the top of the page. I often find the answers I'm seeking this way. If not, or some detail has got me stumped, I'll ask my question in the forum and usually receive a thoughtful and helpful response or two.
Enjoy the ride. _________________ Doodle

| Yeah, I only paid $650 for the car, it had 2 broken FI lines and I got them from a junk yard in desent shape for $3 a peice so I don't have much in the car. I already love it and haven't even driven it yet! |

These cars don't cost much to buy but they will find ways of emptying you pockets for you - even if its mostly fuel. I must say, I love driving my 924 more than any of the cars i drive, (I have a 6 year old 2 liter VW Golf GTI as a works car and often get to use other cars too). But the Porsche is my favorite (and worth alot less than anything else i drive).
I still just go for a drive when i have spare time. How many car owners do that. Bike owners yer! but car owners? _________________ 924 (84) N/A 2 ltr - 5 Speed - BLACK - Project (looking for 200BHP, any ideas!)

| I think every true car owner makes excuses just to drive their favorite car. I don't really need anything from the food store at 11pm. I don't really need to drive 2 hours on my favorite road just to eat breakfast at a plain old restaurant. I don't really need to drive my car in the rain just because it's fun. |

| I thought it was a fuel problem, but it might be a fire problem. Today just for the hell of it I tried to start it and after a minute of trying it had a slight fuel smell under the hood. I ordered the manual but it won't be here for a week! I want to work on it tomorrow because I'm going to have a ton of free time! |

I'm still scared to drive mine longer than 5 minutes for fear of being burned alive in my sub $500 porsch-a.
Now I see what all the guys(and girl) on this board love these cars. It's exciting every car ride! Never know whats going to happen next!
Anyways, did you find the source of the leak? Be careful with how long you crank the engine for, you might be flooding the engine with gas and eventually getting into the oil. My engine was so full of gas from the previous owner trying to get her running, there was gas in the turbo housing! There was a total of almost 10 quarts of an oil and gasoline mixture when I drained the engine. Amazing. |

Welcome!
Water-cooled P-car ownership is a VERY slippery slope. My wife and I have 9 of the stupid things. Four of them run, the rest are donors/projects, and I'm ALWAYS looking for parts/more cars. I'm a vulture with OCD. I work on them all the time and truly enjoy it. In fact, in a roundabout way our P-car habit led to my wife's career. She's an auto body apprentice!
The community here is fun, knowledgeable and entertaining. I often wonder what would happen if we were all hired by Porsche at the same time... _________________ '84 944 - kid blew motor

^+1 Haha, made me laugh, Slam, especially the vulture part! Now if I could just get Julie to agree to get her nails dirty, I'd be in your league!

While you're waiting for your manual to arrive, a couple of useful threads to look through:
931 Resuscitation - how to resurrect a long-dead turbo
A Systematic Approach to 931 Diagnostics
I don't think you mentioned that yours was a turbo, but even so, these two threads have a lot of good info about getting the CIS to work, which should be just as applicable to the NA. In the second thread, the Prerequisites section applies almost exclusively to the the turbo cars, so you can ignore it...but 90% of the rest of the stuff should apply, in terms of a systematic approach to debugging the issues.
Also, some other threads for you to consider posting in:
WELCOME NOOBS!
Post your 924 pictures
Welcome aboard, and best of luck _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

| well I found out one problem, the Fuel filter was not letting any fuel through... the Fuel pump seems to be pumping just fine, it did about 725 CCs in 30 seconds. I read it was suposed to do 750 but that's pretty close! Now if the auto parts store would actually get the filter there on time like they said they would! |
