Hi Guy's,

Thought i would share this pic with you. My new bodyshell just got back from being acid dipped, and work shall be starting imminentley. There's a ton of body mods to do, so the progress will be slow and arduous, without my show for the outlay.
I'll keep updating this post as things move along, so you can witness the birth of a Legend
Also, i'm having trouble deciding what colour scheme to go with. Initially, i thought just pure white & black accents, but i'm open to your suggestions

Steve

Steve, it can't be any slower or more arduous than my UWB project
So nice to work with a clean slate! Looking forward to your progress updates!

I'm having trouble too with color scheme. I thought I had one all picked out that I really liked, but there have been several recent posts with cars in the same scheme, so now I'm second guessing it.

For me, I'm trying to decide, should I go with one of the classic, historic schemes from a bonafide Porsche racing livery, or should I just go with something completely custom, not race-oriented, but totally sinister.

Dan,

Choices choices eh!! I was considering a base colour of pure Alpine white, and then either Viper green graphics, or something similar from back in the day. Don't want to go mad, but keep her nice and simple, but with an historic flavour. She is never going to be a full GTR, so mimicking those coulor schemes or those from other historic Porsche racers seems a little twee.
But i am swinging back to Viper green wheel centres, and side stripes, and little else.

Steve

Hmm. Yes, but not sure. Proper Viper Green is VERY expensive paint. Also, white is the lightest paint due to no pigment. And white is easy to touch up in the event of an unforeseen accident!!

Guy's,

The end product will be basically a GTR front end with this back end

Meh!! C'mon Steve, you've spared no expense on the chassis and engine, why should the paint be any different

I mean REALLY REALLY expensive Then i'd be fretting about racing it. This is no garage queen i'm building here, she will be a warrior!!! And warriors need a few scars, but not at Porsche paint prices!!

.

Is it something with orange and blue, Dan?

Very nice to begin with bare chassis, pretty much what I did with my 931 "Gulf".

Gulf colours are a bit played out here, especially as Dave Dennets car ran these colours.
I'm actually thinking of a Ford brilliant white, with an urban camo job in black & grey done with vinyl. Easy to change, and no one else is running such a scheme.
Speaking with the builder, it's major angle grinder surgery coming up. The entire rear end, boot floor, gearbox mount and spare wheel well is being cut out. Same for the front where the OE bonnet catch goes, to allow for the IC fitment. Then the battery well is next, which is where the dry sump tank is going.
Following that, the cage is going in, and will pick up the front suspension points and rear chassis legs. The cage will be very much like the GTR item, with cross bars going under the windscreen and picking up the trans tunnel. Once the cage is in and fully welded in, the seam welding will begin. This prevents the chassis/unibody warping with the seam welding. Then the electric power steering can go in, together with the front firewall strengthening. All superflous tags ect will be cut off, such as the OE fuel pipe clips, and all unnecessary holes will be filled. The brake & clutch resevoirs will be fitted into the top scuttle, below the windscreen, and all JIC/AN bulkhead fittings welded in for the brakes, oil and clutch.
Then the new 968 gearbox support can be fabricated, together with the new rear floor. Then the rear arches can be cut and welded to allow the wider wheels to go in, and the body kit can go on. Of course, all this does not include the myriad of little items, such as tow loops, radiator brakets ect that will be needed!
It all sounds so simple written like that

Steve
