I've been watching this car on ebay and emailing the owner a little. He has not been that helpful - I was asking questions about cracks in the dash. Any thoughts about the condition or what it will end up bringing?

Still 5 days left, my guess is it will go for close to 5,000.

Just a personal comment but it seems to me these cars are only worth whatever anyone's willing to pay for them -sounds redundant but you know what I mean. Because most of the Yanks (and it is a U.S. car) appear to want these cars only to butcher them (which I don't necessarily disagree with, just couldn't think of any other way to say it), rather than as a collector/classic car (which you could reasonably argue the 924 will never be anyway), it wouldn't make much sense to spend a relatively huge amount of money on one, considering they trade left, right and centre for pocket change.

If it is a genuine 17k mile car, and all original, I personally feel it should be worth a lot more than a few thousand bucks. Especially since it appears to be a Series II Turbo, which, as far as I know, is only pipped for rarity by the Carrera GT.

There are a couple of oddities, that dash cap being one. But hey, if it had a cracked dash, that's fair enough, they nearly all do. As long as the seller isn't trying to hide something... like where they punched a hole through the dash to mount gauge pods or something...
And, at least on the passenger door, the power window switch is the wrong colour (black instead of brown). Could be that it failed and was replaced, again fair enough. But it does make you wonder how much of the interior is original... which makes you wonder how much of the car is original...

It's possible that car only has 17K miles, but being the skeptic I am, the photos are not enough to convince me The seats and driver side carpet don't appear to be suffer the wear one would expect if the odo had rolled and were actually at 117K miles. However, that doesn't mean that the odo is still working, or that it stopped working previously and has been repaired. There's no way to verify with any certainty the actual miles unless the current owner can produce service records maintained by a reputable facility (like the dealer). If the car is what the owner claims it is, then they should have no problem producing photographs of service records to prove mileage. If the owner is being huffy about it, then walk away.

As Khal noted, there are a few suspicious cues that the car is not original, like the dash cap and the window switch. The engine bay looks clean enough, but condition is very difficult to gauge in photos...it could be photogenic but look like CRAP in person. As for the dash, judging by the very badly faded brown carpet, and the fact that this car is in the south, there is NO WAY that dash isn't cracked to pieces.

Judging from the photos, that car isn't anywhere close to concourse condition. I'd pay maybe $3500 for that car if I were in the market, but it might go for $5K tops. If you want to see a concourse condition 931, look here. And note, BTW, that it did not fetch the $6500 asking price (worth every penny IMO), which is $700 less than what the current owner paid for it.

that car is so cool - it's worth at least $10K in my opinion but it'll probably go for less. $5k is probably right

it doesn't matter to me what people will pay though - that car is decent, no mech problems and is worth way more than a new sunfire or rice hauler so my $10K price is low. like, if i were a buyer, i could pay $10K and if i can make it last 3 years its cheaper to run it than get a new car loan

i didn't look over the features Dan mentions but i'll do that now...

the odo looks fine to me? The door panels look suspicious. The back sliding thing is a bit wrinkled but that's cheap to fix.

yeah maybe less than $10K but still if the mileage is that low for real I'll hold my price at $10K

The car has a 1980 VIN Number. "93A"

The interior of the car has a lot of damage from the car being parked in the sun. Look at the color of the carpeting. It's green, when it used to be brown. The seats look like they have been used alot more than 17K miles.

It's hard to judge the condition of the paint, but I would expect from the looks of the interior that the car has been repainted, or looks much worse in person.

Still it is possible that the car was simply parked outside for long stretches without being driven. That could account for the physical condition, with the low miles.

I would say that this car would make a nice driver, and not much more. It's is certainly not in Concours Condition.

The upper charge tube also indicates its a 1980 model year car. Hard to believe much about the car considering the advertised MY isn't even correct. However it does look quite nice and should fetch 5K.

Aaaahhh, a PETROL BLUE turbo.

Has a dash cap which I notice has been nicely avoided in the pickies. If it is being advertised as a 17K car, I'd want to see doco (receipts, maint records, dealer stamps) documenting that fact or its suspect -- they almost *ALL* break odos and without doco, that's suspect. I think you buy this purely on condition. Looks like nice shape but this definately is one of those "see it in person or don't buy it" cars.

If it is how it looks, it is probably a $5-6K car with the right buyers bidding, maybe a little more. With no reserve, the seller is pretty brave...

Looks like a good, clean, original car...

I'd still be suspicious of the mileage, unless I was show documented evidence.

It might go for £2500 over here, so that's about US$5000-ish.

Look at the photo of the car interior on the right side with the door open. The carpeting on the door in front of the seat is brown, like carpeting in good condition.

Now look up on the carpeting on the side of the center console. It's completely green, like carpeting in poor condition with serious sun fading.

Now look at the carpeting where it runs up from the floor to the center console, brown again/still.

But as you move towards the rear of the center console, it suddenly turns back to the green sun damaged carpeting. In the photo of the interior from the left side with the door open the carpeting on the tunnel and the center console is green from front to rear.

The door panels are too brown to have been in the sun with the green carpeting, and the two tone does not look right. Like the carpeting, I suspect that they may have been pieced together as well.

I don't think that I would touch this car with a long stick. There is too much that doesn't add up.
