Why is it history when a woman finally does something that men have been doing for over 100 years?

Just a media hash of a story.

I'd say history was made for sure but not "history". It is true, it is the first time a female has won this type of race - so that is history. But its not an resounding historical moment that anyone is going to get another day off of school for - unless you live in her hometown maybe.

I wouldn't kick her off the race track unless she wanted to do it in the dirt.

Tough crowd! TMB, here are records of a few active drivers:

Kanaan 12/84
Andretti 1/34
Helio 12/95
Briscoe 0/19
Wilson 4/55
Dixon 11/80
Foyt 0/66
Wheldon 13/80
Carpenter 0/65
Servia 1/126

No, she's not the top driver in the league, but its an accomplishment nonetheless. Suffice to say her reflexes, and stamina are better than anyone's here. . .

She has had a ride with 2 of the top teams her whole career- any other driver on one of those teams would have been sacked long ago for performance. She has survived on publicity because she is female, posed in FHM and has sex appeal. Her attitude during interviews is horrible. I have road raced for 13yrs and have seen alot of good, fast, women drivers-this is nothing new to motorsport the last several years.

The car can not distinguish who is driving it and men have no advantage over a woman so ...what is the big deal with Danica? We can agree to disagree-alot of people are on the Danica bandwagon. David Letterman and I are just not among them.

Not on her bandwagon, but being the first woman driver to win an IndyCar race is an accomplishment.

If you care about your women friends who are drivers, you gotta believe this will help them. . .at least a little.

rasta

BTW, I hear your point about her getting leeway in the job performance arena, and agree that you may be right.

Big Deal, so a woman can drive a car fast.

Honsetly, it is such a stupid thing to make a big deal about. What about all the women performing valuable professional roles in careers that contribute to society that were once dominated by men? That is something to celebrate. Piling congratulations and historical significance on anyone for driving a car fast, whenther male or female, is just silly. Danica is just another overpaid athlete whose earnings are out of touch with her importance to civilization.

Well, I like motorsport, so I am guilty of contributing to the obscene wealth of these no-good layabouts.

Crazy thread!

My women friends that are drivers rest on thier own laurels. At every PNWR PCA autocross you will see 3-5 women who are national champions. At the ICSCC races I enter, there are several women leading packs of 50. That is why, for me-it is unimpressive that Danica Patrick finally won an IRL race after 50 attempts. There have been alot of very fast and talented women long before her in all types of motorsports. (lynn St James, Michelle Mouton). They did not recieve the publicity of Danica because they did not do PG-13 rated "Go-Daddy" commercials. Danica is a marketing success, not a racing success.

I was re-reading your IRL stats...we should add 1 more.

Graham Rahal 1/1.

Andrew

PS: Rasta- as a show of no hard feelings I am going to take $5 off the Carrera GT rear flairs.
