Hi, Can anyone tell me the length of a 931 S1 dipstick? Had my engine rebuilt, and either the builder or the mechanic have lost the dipstick. Bought 2 second hand ones that both came off 931 S1's but they do not register any oil even though there are 5.5 liters in there.

thanks,

Heres what I got off my 80 931.
430mm from bottom of stopper to tip.
First mark is at 16 - second at 38

Hope this helps and I hope I converted it correctly.

Check the PET as from memory theres 2 different lengths, with or without the tube.
Assuming Buwani 931`s measurements are right, go by that rather than the overall length, but the tube adds extra length to the stop height of course.

Those measurements are of the dipstick only , from the stopper where it hits the tube,to the end.

RC's talking about the two completely different types of dipstick. Most got the tube and dipstick setup. Some earlier cars got just a dipstick that's inserted lower-down where the later cars' tube would be attached. -So there were 2 different designs and lengths of dipsticks.

Thanks for the great response guys. Seems I had been sold the wrong dipstick, twice. After getting the correct one the oil registered fine.

thanks again,
