Hi, I'm having my engine rebuilt. It's out of the car and stripped down, the mechanic who is doing the work isn't happy with the original pistons going back in, but we cannot locate anyone who will sell us a set of pistons. Porsche aren't interested, Euro Car Parts have tried their best, tried pretty much every Porsche parts dealer in the country (I'm in the UK).
Tried searching through old threads but all I could find were talking about upgrades, i'm not looking for any performance gains, standard will be fine.
I'd be happy importing from the US or elsewhere, any one have any suggestions as to where I might be able to find some? The mechanic says even standard size will be better than putting the old ones back in.
many thanks _________________ 1980 924 Turbo RHD. 3" > 2.5" Stainless straight-through exhaust. |

J&E have the specs for the turbo. About $500 IIRC. Don't know what they cost to import to UK. If you are spending the money for 'custom' pistons (essentially what the J&E are) I know Wossner in Germany can make them too. Perhaps cheaper to get as they are in the EU? _________________ John

WOW! Thanks for that link, not sure why it didn't come up in my saved searches.
Waiting for a reply back from Wessner's UK distributor, not gonna be cheap but it's another option.
Just to check, can anyone confirm that the S1 and S2 use the same pistons?

If it's the Woosner distributer in Essex, they made a set for me already, so they should have the info on file. The engine builder/ contact they were odered by was a guy called Glen Searle. However, you will need to get the small end bearings re bushed, as they don't make a wrist pin in our size.
Alternatively, i have my old engine coming out in a week or two. I can sell you the pistons and rods if you require and can wait a little.
I believe the S1 and S2 pistons are different as there was an increase in CR from S1 to S2. I guess this was accomplished by changing the piston design.
Good luck,

Well, after spending a day and a half calling what must have been every single engine builder in the UK I've found some 0.5mm oversize Mahle pistons, £87.50 each including VAT. Going to take 2-3 weeks to arrive with a large Mercedes order, but they have them on the shelf. In case anyone else in the UK finds this post and is interested, PM me for the supplier.
Thanks anyway for the help, bass gt and John Brown. _________________ 1980 924 Turbo RHD. 3" > 2.5" Stainless straight-through exhaust. |
