a 1981 931 and a 1987 924S. I realize of course that the 931 is a 924 turbo, but are there any other significant details that I should know ?
The reason I ask is, I am pretty new to the 924...and I have a 924S that I just finished bringing back from a 10 year nap. There is a 931 that I have my eye on, and might purchase. |

Have a l:oky here - http://www.924board.org/viewtopic.php?t=20795
Basic differences are engine, suspension, steering, front crossmember, and hvac system. The '81 931 has the 2.0L engine with turbo added and other engine parts changed to make it the turbo vers. It also got the earlier '76-'82.5 hvac system, and a steel front crossmember.
The drivetrain would be roughly the same between '81 931 and '87 924S with Audi transaxles in both, same shifter, same torque tube and 25mm driveshaft, same hydraulic clutch system from pedal to slave cylinder (,but different clutch discs and as far as I know different pressure plates).
924S got power steering, 931 is all manual arm power.
I think the 924S got the 944 brake master cylinder and line routing - that would mean it's split front-rear instead of diagonally like the 924NA-931, and the 924S-944 MC is stepped with 19mm and 23mm diameters, while the 931's MC is all 23mm. _________________ "..it's made in Germany.
