At some time past it has been reported that this 'elbow' is no longer available. Not true. I just picked up 2 from the local Porsche dealer.
Granted. They are now silly expensive at $14.50 each.
But, it's one of those essential little parts that you can't live without. On the bright side it should last another 25 years which is plenty. Hey, 60 cents a year. _________________ John

I should have contacted EBS but I think they either no longer show it and they used to or it shows as nla. In any case I know they often can get 'stuff' not listed. So you remember about how long ago?
Porsche has apparently made some major price increases on parts roughly the last year. _________________ John

John,
I just got two from EBS via UPS yesterday, $13.85 each. I little higher than I expected, but I also thought that they were NLA from the dealer.

Unless Porsche has changed the way that they price parts, they price parts based on aquisition price.
Meaning that if they bought 10,000,000 screws in 1972, and they cost $.0005 cents each, they might have set the retail price at $.50 each. If the supply of $.0005 cent screws is never used up, the retail price would stay at $.50 each. When the supply of screws is used up, and they order a new supply of screws, THEN the retail price of the screws is changed to reflect their new acquisition cost.
This would explain some of the dramatic price changes that occur at times on parts used on older Porsche models.
If you have or have seen a copy of the Porsche Dealer Suggested Retail Price Book, you could see that (at least there used to be) some 924 dashboards with a retail price of less than $300 (red?), when the much more common and in demand black and brown color dashboards were up to between $1000- and $1500. This is a great example of the type of pricing procedure that I am explaining.
I guess it's a good thing that I have about a dozen of the plastic oil supply tube elbows sitting in packages in my garage. A long time ago (15 years?), I bought some of them from the Porsche Dealer for less than $1 each when I was changing them every year, and another package of them (about 6 in the envelope) from the Pomona Porsche Swapmeet for $1 for the envelope). |
