Two part question/post.

a.) why are fender mirrors more popular outside of US - I don;t think I have ever seen an American automaker manufacture a vehicle with fender mirrors

b.) please respond to poll

thanks

Why would they be better? A bigger range inside the mirror? Might be distracting?

I guess I just haven't thought of it.

I know that the early RX7's had them, but I don't know if any cars in US are allowed to have them, I only saw them on a right hand drive car.

They were (and maybe still are) required in Japan. I guess they get rid of the blind spots for those who think the side mirrors on US cars are for seeing the traffic behind you.

excellent, I have a Montero Sport - overseas called a Pajero - and I've seen several pictures of the Pajero with them on - I think it works on that car.

Anyone ever driven a car with them - is it hard to get used to?

Here are a couple pics I found:

Anyway - has anyone seen a 924 with them?

+JDM yo.

Fender mirrors are only a japanese thing, as far as I know. They still build them over there, although the trend is now towards door mounted mirrors.

Personally, I'm planning on removing the mirrors on my car when I repaint. The only time I ever use them is for keeping an eye on traffic on the highway, and even then I always shoulder check before changing lanes...

One of the great features of the 924 is that you sit so close to the side mirror that you have a great view out of it. Put it several feet further away, and you're not going to see anything through it.

I agree. I've always felt like they broke up the lines of the car - especially the older cars where anything other then stock fenders breaks up the hard, straight lines of back in the day.
