I have still not been able to figure out whether my 924 is a '77 or '77.5 model. According to my haynes manual, they raised the compression from 8.0:1 to 8.5:1 sometime during the 1977 production year. I can't figure out which engine mine has because where the identification code should be (something like XJ or XG) there is nothing. I noticed that they had different codes for the california models, which i think mine is because it has an air pump... Are there any defining features on the engine that could tell me which one it is? Anyone have pictures of the different compression pistons that i might be able to match mine up with?

The clue is the air pump.
Even California 77 model year engines don't have an air pumps.
You must have a 77.5 engine. The air pump was added to the 77.5 engine. |
