Driving to Bathurst on Friday to watch the 1000km V8 Supercars Race.

Can't hardly wait!

I'm not taking the toofah (don't fancy needing a replacement spine ). It's about 650 miles south of my place -3hrs drive west of Sydney -so me and a mate have hired a car and are driving down on Friday, spend Saturday and Sunday at the race, drive back Monday.

I've been there a couple of times but only once to watch the race. It's an awesome circuit, rated as one of the best in the world.

Approx. Google Earth co-ords are;

33d 26' 50" S
149d 33' 15" E

Can't see much but you get the idea where it is. I'm in Brisbane.

I'm IN!!!

Oh that's right, I'm 17,000 miles away.

Oh well, these guys are great. They used to show this series on SPEED channel here and I really enjoyed it. Lots of competition and good driving. Almost as good OZ export as Footie!!

Have a great time. Hoist one for us trapped here in the states.

Yeah, now they refuse to show any V8 Supercar other than NASCAR....or the pre-pre-race show, pre-race show, live race, live post-race, re-run the race 3X, and then spend all damn week discussing how the race went, who felt what about who, and then preview the next race! Oh, and the NASCAR celebrity poker games, NBS 24/7, NASCAR Behind the scenes, and a day in the life of each and every crew memeber of every team.

Oh, and that 24 Hours of LeMans thing at 2am, but only show 1 hour (live) and never return to the race......and black out every Formula 1 race that occurs during NASCAR practice or qualifying. SPEED Channel World Challenge Touring Car and GT even gets shafted, and its their race!

Sorry for the rant, SPEED channel took a huge crap when Fox Network turned it into the NASCAR Channel. Now I have to stay up until 1am to watch a WRC race that is already 3 days old.

Best automotive TV in the USA right now? Wednesday nights on Discovery Channel : BBC's Top Gear...its not even a US show, and its the best...'cause there's no NASCAR!!

end rant

I tend to follow the drivers more than the teams. I a big fan of Lowndes. Skaife, Ambrose and Murphy, too. So either Ford or Holden, I don't mind (one of the biggest buzzes I'm looking forward to is the Carrera Cup... never seen 'em at The Mountain)

I wish! That "3hrs west of Sydney" was just to give some idea of location. Takes 12-14 hours to drive there from my place.

Yeah, it's awesome. A helluva show!

My best nite of the week is Wednesday too -- but because CN8 ("local" comcast cable sports channel) puts on 1 hour of AUSSIE RULES FOOTBALL highlights at midnight. WOO HOO my favourite.

Pretty unpredictable though, sometimes it is on, sometimes not (often superceded by some f'n NFL football talk show -- tough staying up to 12 waiting for footie and finding THAT, ugh!) and I can't find listings for this channel so I have to take my chances. I'm sure the Grand Final's been had by now but don't tell me who won. I might still catch St. Kilda winning the GF (I can hope, can't I??).

Have a great time at the race.

Go Skaifie!!

Sorry....I'm geographically dysfunctional with the down-under layout.

Have a good time.

Yeah mate, run and won. Weekend before last.

It's a shame you don't get Triple J over there. Roy and HG (they did the TV show "The Dream" during the Sydney 2000 Olympics) do a weekly Sunday afternoon sports show called "This Sporting Life." Very funny. You can listen to it on the 'Net on Sundays at 14:00 Australian Eastern Standard Time (GMT +10)

Anyways, they do "The Festival of the Boot" Parts 1 and 2, which is a live commentary for the Aussie Rules and Rugby League grand finals.

We always turn down the TV and turn up Triple J to listen to Roy and HG do the commentary

man, im watching delayed coverage of the qualifying shoot-out, damn its always more exciting than the actual racing. greg murphy (holden) just got 2:09.183 iirc placing him first but theyre still going!

heres a link for you o'seas guys to look at, i think u can watch streamed footage live: http://v8supercar.bigpond.com/flash/V8_2005_promo.html

im in the process of getting a better link...

damnit! marcus ambrose (ford) just posted the fastest time so far, 2:08.857, scaife (holden) followed up with 2:09.337 and last one coming now... is craig lowndes (ford)... with 2:08.559! lowndes gets pole!

heres the track, gearing and speeds may be a bit faster now but they're still getting near to 300kph down conrod straight.

So this one is about 20 minutes....

V8 Supercars: do they still have the pickup races as well? Those guys didn't really mind doing some bodywork afterwards...

Can't watch it on TV anymore, but it was one of the best series I've seen.
