Not my car but could you folks lend a hand?
"I Have a 1981 924, since last year I've been trying to restore the engine, at first I notice that the valve steem seals were letting oil leak to the spark pluggs, that caused a hard start when hot, so I started trying to change the valve steem seals, while I was working on it, i did notice that 2 valves were not sealing right in the head. After this I proceeded to remove the head and sent it to correct, once it was corrected i changed all the joints, valve steem seals and rotocaps and put it all toguether again, after this, it didn't work, and I adjusted the valves and changed the fuel injectors, the spark pluggs, the wires of the spark pluggs, the distribuitor rotor cap and adjusted the timing, now it runs but doesn't go over 3500 rpm. and it drawns when i step full at the gas pedal, i did check the fuel pump and it seems to be fine.
I have no idea of what else i'm missing or what may be the problem, so if this have happened to any of you anytime, or have an idea of what it may be, i will really apreciate the help?" |

Are the fuel mixtures correct and timing set at the correct marker??
What colou is the gas coming out the back?? if it's black then your running to rich, this may be as a result of your head now running more efficiently.
More often than not bad igniton timing is responsible for poor rpm values. The car should still run clean up to redline on lean fuel, obviuosly you do not want to run it like that during driving but it's not to say it won't achieve high rpms.
You can test the dwell angle settings according to the haynes manual in the igniton section and make sure that everything is bolted down/connected properly.
Finally what conditon are the rotor cap and leads and sparkplugs in, have they been changed recently??
