| I was wondering if a 924 could complete a long trip from California to Iowa. It's a long trip but Im up to it. Do you guy's think a 1979 924 could make it alive? |

It all depends on the condition of the car.
Bring oil, water, coolant, 2 spare tires, jack, a small tool set and a cell phone.
Have fun.
Neil
P.S. I have put about 2,500 kms on my car, most of that was at 4-6 k in 5th gear so, long runs at high speeds don't seem to hurt. |

Obviously depends on the car. Mine would make it. Doesn't mean I'd do it. Big difference if you have a problem with a late model car as opposed to a 20 something year old Porsche.
I could take my wife's car or my truck anywhere for a repair......

I did a 750+ mile round tripper in my 81 NA a couple of weekends ago. I also drove my 80 928 from SoCal to MI (4000 miles one way). I had some worries along the way, and it was a big gamble in some respects. However, worst case scenario, my insurance provides road service and I call up the closest UHaul to rent a truck and trailer. Fortunately, it didn't come to that. The condition of the car is obviously a huge factor...but it also depends on your sense of adventure, your pocket book in case something goes wrong, and how resourceful you are at getting out of a jam! _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

I've never pushed mine further than about 250 miles in one go (i.e. in one day). Funny thing is, it's usually running better at the end of the run than at start! Nice smooth idle, revs freely, gearchange gets a bit slicker, brakes stop squealing... even the suspension feels a little smoother! But, of course, that's just 'cause she's well warmed up
Shut her off and try to start her the next day and she won't go for love nor money
I'm exaggerating, obviously. But it's true that on more than one occasion I've been for a good run, she's run like clockwork and as as soon as you shut her off, she's dead...
Time to start testing/cleaning/replacing bits until she goes again!
On the other hand, like Neil924, mine doesn't get driven often. If yours is a daily driver then you could be a lot more confident. Like most cars, these things tend to last better if they're always being driven. _________________ '80 924 Turbo |

Make CERTAIN you have an extra fuel pump relay in the glove box. _________________ '80 924 n/a SOLD |

Helps to have a couple of lengths of wire for jumpering things together, zip ties, and spare timing/alternator belts. _________________ 1977 Porsche 924 red and READY! |

In march I did 3000 kms in 4 days, in all, had a a broken exhaust, water rain in the innner carpets and had to be push started a couple of times.
Other than that everything went perfect (170 kms of highway in 1 hour including 1 fast stop) _________________ Euro 924 1980 N/A

I always figure daily city stop and go driving is harder on a car than a long highway trip.
My '79 made it everywhere I wanted to drive it _________________ Ryan Moone

My 924 loves a long trip, For 12 years I ran it 7 hours round trip on Friday nite and again on Monday nite every 6 weeks. These trips were visitation trips with my child for a long weekend visiting her Mother, thats why I got the car so I would have somethig fun to drive on these trips. I have had the car since 1987, you can see it under Models and History, its the Sebring, has won alot of car shows _________________ Not just a 924, A 79 Sebring,Correct and Right
