Hey guys - I want to put my entire front suspension from my '86 951 on my '80 931. Is it going to work?
(just did conversion to 951S stuff on the '86, so I have ALL the '86 stuff except crossmember...)
What do you think?

It should work. The front aluminum arms may be hard to mount.
Keep me updated as I'm curious what issues will arise

Ok - Stage I...
Put the strut, Aluminum A-arm, spindle, hub, rotor, and caliper fromt he '86 951 on the '80 931 this weekend (one side). Haven't attached the tie rod yet (rack and stuff out of the car, getting cleaned up). The difficult part was the front pivot on the A-arm. I had to mechanically clearance (with 2lb sledge) the thin wall inside the crossmember to achieve an additional 1/4", and then had to use a grinder to remove about an 1/8" from the metal washers on the outsides of the bushings in the A-arm. This trimming took place from 12 o'clock to 4 o'clock on the washer, as viewed from the front of the A-arm.
This setup accomodates early offset 944 wheels (like the 7" phone dials from my '86 951) on the front.
Will try to finish up the front this week (including tie rods) and get started on the rear, which I am fuzzy about.
BTW, this was a 4 bolt 931, so I suppose I will have to change out the master cylinder... Anyone have any ideas on that?
Thanks.

Yeah, I'd recommend using the 951 MC... I suspect it'll just bolt on...
Good job with the conversion, and good luck with the ongoing... keep us up to date...
