|
|
"all these parts are still available from the 944 Turbo.
x2 front struts, complete (minus wishbones) £250.00
Complete rear axle (everything) £250.00"
enquired today as to availabilty of the above parts, didn't get the year of the car, seems a good price to me ?
Comments appreciated.
Not sure if I will go this route as the wilwood route, with 'Gaz' adjustable dampers stiffer anti roll bar and 250lb springs interest me somewhat. _________________ '24 turbo with dodgy gt bodykit......needs a new home |

| Considering the xchange rate from pounds to dollars (what is it right now, around 1.7 to 1?), those prices would be high for over here in the States. But I know that cars and parts are priced much higher in other countries. |

you think thats expensive!
this is the email I got from another breaker:
"944 turbo front struts, complete including calipers etc £300 plus vat each
944 turbo rear arms, torsion bars, £300 each plus vat.
slight difference in price there.. _________________ '24 turbo with dodgy gt bodykit......needs a new home |

just for confirmation:
the front struts will bolt right on right?
@ I can just butcher the rear end for the torsion bars, rollbar, calipers etc and these will also bolt right on? I hope this is the case as I think here in the uk that price is pretty good.
still can't get the wilwood idea out of my head though, Bass the add did mention mounting brackets and having searched quite a bit I haven't found details of these. _________________ '24 turbo with dodgy gt bodykit......needs a new home |

Whether the parts will bolt-on without complications depends on what year 951 the parts came from.
The front offset was changed as was the rear track at different times from what I understand.
If you are planning on doing some track events, changing the parts will probably earn you a penalty of sorts, you will probably be bumped up in class for the change in suspension geometry, or moved into an unlimited class where you would have no chance of winning.
If you are just going to run the car on the street the making change to 951 suspension will require new alignment specs (I don't know what they would be because you will be altering the track width. You will have to watch your wheel clearances becasue they will change. You will probably need to run the 951 upper strut mounts is you run the 951 struts. The 951 strut mount may interfere with the gas hood struts if you car is equipped with them.
In the rear, using the torsion bars is not a problem, as long as you realize that you will have to drop the rear suspension, and put it back several times to get the ride height correct. This takes several hours for each cycle as it is trial and error, and you should expect a shop to charge you $400-$600 to install the torsion bars and set the rear ride height. Make sure that if you are going to change the front, that you have the front stuff installed, so you won't have to pay to have the rear ride height set more than once. If you are going to try to switch to alloy rear trailing arms, you will also need to use the springplates that came with the alloy rear arms. I don't know if the 951 cars use the same ones as the 944/924S. You will need the cv axles from the 951 as they are a different length (longer) if you are going to switch to alloy rear trailing arms. You will also need the parking brake cables as they will be longer as well. If you have an earlier 924 with the smaller diameter brake master cylinder and vacuum brake booster, you will need to upgrade to late 924 or 944/951 parts. If you upgrade to the 944/951 master cylinder you will need to change the car from diagonal braking to front and rear braking. |

the guy hasn't got back to me with the year and model yet.
I want to install polybushes anyway so need to remove all the suspension.
Gaz make front and rear dampers for the '24 turbo and they are really good value. Looking at the price I assume they are dampers only. _________________ '24 turbo with dodgy gt bodykit......needs a new home |

the donor car is a 1987 turbo with 90,000 miles on the clock.
I think it may be worth snapping these bits up, looking at the costs of the wilwoods, plus the postage and then having to sort the rears out aswell. _________________ '24 turbo with dodgy gt bodykit......needs a new home |
