Engine runs too warm (though the temp gauge only shows the needle half way up the gauge )
and when i stop after a half hour drive, the engine chucks about a litre of coolant on to the floor.
I cant see where this coolant comes from but it appears to be somewhere near the bottom left corner of the radiator ?
any ideas guys ? ?
PS smoothie, the regulator/alternator is running a dream, thanks ! _________________ 1959 vw type 2

Check your coolant tank cap.
Make sure you are not over filling the system.
Have you bled the system recently? |

One of your hoses could have a blow out & the system isnt pressurizing and doing its job so it over heats and chucks up coolant. _________________ 1979 porsche 924 Na

Great news!
I would still bleed the coolant system to remove any air that may have entered the system. It only takes 5 minutes. _________________ White 87 924S "Ghost"

I posted some misinformation about the temp gauga values.....
The centre gauge marker on the coolant reading actually corresponds to 95 degrees. So naturally when you shut off the engine after some driving time it rises to the point of boiling.
Proper running of this engine should be around the first marker.... or 85 degrees.... This will eliminate boil over at shutdown.
Look at a cooler thermo fan switch, and rewire the thermo fan without the resistor in it. This should cool things down much quicker after shutdown...

another thing is you can buy a gauge at your local parts store or walmart that will tell you the mixture of your coolant and water. If it's not the correct mixture it may cause a lower boiling point or less efficient cooling. _________________ My Old Porsche Thats Sold
