Sounds like when I spun a bearing badly. _________________ Vaughan Scott

Hey Joe, I have a rebuilt short bolck here if you need it. I will have to pull the 931 pistons from it, I do have a set of new stock pistons and rings i can put in for you. Or I can just give you all the parts and you can do it yourself. Let me know Otherwise I probally can just send you a standard block for rebuilding, or just the parts to do yours. Let me know. If your interested. _________________ Life is to short to be looking for something? |

Man Joe, You have had some really bad luck with engines! Maybe it is time to have a professional build one for you.
If not Just buy two of everything since you will need it in six months anyway. |

Mine was worse. Of course, had to toss in a new crank and rod. Make sure you at least have the crank machined, and use a fresh rod (or have that one cut and re-bored to spec).
What clearances did you measure before you put it together? You did plastigage it, right??? _________________ Vaughan Scott

Yes I did plasti-guage everything and passed...the oil pickup
nuts were loose I found out when it was taken apart. _________________ 1979 porsche 924 Na

So besides the oil pickup bolts been loose, they were loos enough
to effect pick-up Id say other problem I found was a leaky hose to
the radiator I just replaced it too the one that comes off the lower
inlet to the water pump and is close to the pump belt. My only guess
is it was an aftermarket hose & was really thick and it got to close
to the belt it
was plain to see. I pulled the motor and am getting it back together.
I replaced the clutch as it was close to 8 ms. Rings are fine new
bearings pan and head gaskets is all it needed. And all my labor
its my B- day today though. so I dont know how much Ill get done _________________ 1979 porsche 924 Na

man, i wish i was mechanically talented enough to just yank my engine when something goes wrong. If my engine just stopped running sometimes, I'd just have to junk the car! My hat goes off to your skills. _________________ 1977 Porsche 924 red and READY! |

Yep, Joe's got Mad Skilz! LOL... hey, these are the kinds of skills you don't wish to acquire... because the learning process sucks!
Joe, did you have the little lock-tab thing on those oil pickup bolts? That should prevent them from coming off. I can relate to that, though - think I once came VERY close to doing the same thing myself on a race motor, pulled the pan back off just in time and tightened them. Ugh. Scary. Just goes to prove that there's no substitute for taking your time to build the motor! That and ALWAYS USE LOCTITE - OR YOU'LL LOSE YOUR NUTS!
You sure that crank's OK? I'd be worried if it locked up. Then again, if you weren't turning 6k like I was with no oil pressure, that may not be such an issue! LOL
Good luck... _________________ Vaughan Scott

Hey Vaughan yea I had the other good crank out and went ahead and pulled the block all by myself..Turns out the person I had look at it
said just to clean it up and polish it before installing a new bearing..
that was a bummer though I did throw in a new clutch disc..
& now I dont recall dealing with the tabs on this teardown
though I seem to recall them when I last rebuilt it ...Ill look
into that. Pistons are back in. I picked up a new magnetic oil
drain plug also.
Man its a beautifull day for a birthday. _________________ 1979 porsche 924 Na
