How about this for a headlight modification:
Maybe instead of one large 7" round, could use same configuration as seen in the photo, with say a 4" and 3" or dual 3" ?????

I like it, looks a lot like lights on early z-cars. _________________ 1977 Porsche 924 red and READY! |

Yea that and some of the more exotic cars where my inspiration... I just don't know if I like it one hundred percent....
What it does do is open the front nose section for other mods... like a much larger intercooler... or RAM AIR style venting to the engine bay and air filter...
I am still a huge fan of the GTR and GTS cars... with the widebody and fixed headlights, porsche wise...
Even with the 924... but the 924 does not have the fender width for this, but a Carrera GT would...
Of course on my 931s I will proably try the Lexan cover and dual rounds like some of the stuff I have seen... but I am looking for something that adds to the car not detracts from its lines or beauty... something Ferrari F40 like mixed with the G cars.... its radical and not for everyone... but I also love the 930... and other porsche track cars.
I hope more people post to this. |

How about some small projector lights mounted in the stock location?
Then we could remove the headlight opening gear and replace it with something that would need to open the stock headlight covers an inch or 2. |

Well Projector lights arent the best when used in the stock location, has to do with their design, better as a front mounted fog lamp or some such or in a location where they dont sit so fat back from the opening.
Now you could install dual 3" round headlights on both sides in the stock configuration and use the lexan covers so end up with 4 round lights one high and low each side, instead of the GTR style square lamp.
USING 3" round lights or projectors of the same size, you could move them closer to the front intead of toward the back and this would help ensure a better light patern. Problem isnt mounting, its adjustment.
Of course it has been done... so it isnt as exciting as something that hasnt been done... guess I am just considering some ideas and throwing it out for comment. |

The Gt conversion from all reports I've read does not provide adequate lighting for night driving at speed.
I want to keep my car looking completely stock in the daytime, but would like to free up some space for intercooling piping, so the idea of 3" headlights mounted in the stock location with much a much smaller lifting mechanism (one on each side) interests me. (They would only lift 3 or 4".) |

Could you put some heavy duty halogen lamps in with the GT fixed headlight conversion to get improved visibility at night? Or is lamp position the problem ? _________________ 1979 931 with a 350 chev

| The problem from what I can see is positioning of the lights and the cut of the glass lens... lights are designed with specific purposes in mind, mounting them in other locations or ways does not always make for the best lighting. |

I think the lights in the fender are way cool. Very nice concept...but is there enough room in the standard fenders for that to work??? Also, I really like the idea of going with the turbo style cutout in the nose panel. Retains some of the original design aesthetic. Great concept overall.

I've seen a conversion just like that for the Miata. It's actually pretty cool too, and would overcome any concerns about the restricted angle of illumination that would result from a fixed installation.

This is what I want on my 924 NA. Does somebody make such a kit? I have not been able to find the dual round setup anywhere, and don't have the time or inclination to build my own kit. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |
