Hi,

A while back i posted regarding my engine stopping at random times. I have now fitted a new switch for the ignition and it's still as bad. After it stops i have to pull over put it in park and when i turn to the starter it always fires but as soon as i let go of the ignition key (to disengage the starter) it dies straight away. it will do this 5-10 times then it will suddenly start. Is there any relay or passage through the fuse box that the 12v that pressumably goes to the coil and other engine components to make and keep the engine running. What else could be my problem. like i say if i hold the starter in for longer then the car will stay running( although not good for the poor starter motor) but on relese it dies. Ignition switch was genuine porsche part. Please help me as it stopped 5 times on the motorway in the pouring rain this morning ( i have to drive it home yet).
Many Thanks

Not from personal experience, but from reading similar posts in the past... You should be checking the ballast resistors* on either side of the coil (if you have them) and the wiring to them. Check and clean the connections at the starter also - all, but with special attention to the small wires.
Problem might also be with the ignition module** located on the left-front wheel well.

* - reason being - the engine's wired to send full battery voltage to the starter and coil when the key's in the "start" position, then when released to "ignition on", current to the coil is rerouted through the ballast resistor/s to decrease its' voltage.

** - get your nose down there on it (with igntion switched off ) - if it smells like burnt electrical components, there's a clue.
