Having some trouble ordering bushes. Could someone clarify if the sabilizer is the same as the control arm, and if the bushes are the same on a standard 924?

Thanks,

Stabilizer (or anti-sway bar) is the long rod (say, oh, 20-25mm diameter) that spans from side to side, attaching to each control arm. Control arm is (essentially) a triangular piece that hinges on the frame and has a ball joint on the 3rd side which attaches to the steering knuckle & spindle assembly. Bushings should be the same for same model years. Different stabilizer bushings for each different diameter bar that was available.

..
Control arms in the left photo, rear swaybar in the right, but you should get the idea... I don't have a decent photo of everything together so you can put things into perspective.

thanks CMXXXI, that's extremely helpful. Shame the guy at the parts store didn't know.

As I re-read the post, it dawned on me you asked about the REAR control arms and stabilizer. Oops

The rear setup is analogous to the front. The control arms pivit/hinge on the frame and carry the rear axle hub - "Trailing Arms" is probably the proper term for the rear arms. The stabilizer back there is a thinner anti-sway bar (various diameters, around, what, 16mm?) and mounts to the frame and trailing arms via the drop links shown in the photo of my first post.

Bushings for the stabilizer differ with bar diameter (and I beleive there are two ways it mounts depending on model year). I also believe the control arm bushings also differ between model years, between the "old" and "new" style rear suspension. I have not messed with the rear suspension bushings and bearings (yet), so I can't offer any first-hand comments.

In the photo below, you can easily see the sway bar, and the trailing arms are just about everything that is rusty. They hinge next to the transmission and go out to form the hub carrier, they also are the lower mountining points for the red shocks.
