I never drive in the rain, but I had to the other day and I noticed the floor mat was wet on the drivers side. I picked up the floor mat thinking I was going to see a rust hole in the floorpan but instead I see the water came out of a square hole about were your left foot would be at. Is there a plug that is missing or just what do you think that hole is for, its a clean cut factory hole.. Thanks for your time

I don't think I have heard of that before. I would clean it out and find some hard rubber to fill it with. Maybe some sealer after that.
Is it Sebring related I wonder?

Sounds like the hole for the speedo cable to come in. Get some one to send you a round plug to fill the hole.

Eh... "Round plug" for a "square hole" ???

I recently changed most of the floor metal in my 924 but I can't remenber seeing any square holes in the floor? However, some parts had been replaced by POs before me so I guess they could had removed that part...

dough! Thought I read that... oops square hole. Hmmm. I will have to look again at my cars. Problem is that neither of them will be with me until the end of the month.

Some one else will have to take this one.

Thanks guys, The hole is square and about 2 to 3 inches long and maybe
an inch tall. The hole is under want would be a foot rest for your left
foot, its like a place to put your foot in the hard turns. It is low almost to the floor on the left side under the carpet.. has to be from the factory..

Sounds like one of those holes that are used for letting "chemical stuff" (too early for me thinking in English! ) out during the body treatments in the manufacturing process? My 924 got a hole just like that in the floor just behind the rear seat mounting points.

Should be quite easy to cut a piece of metal/plastic and use some putty to make the hole resist water?

Regards
Magnus

There's nothing that should go there that I know of. Maybe somone had some kind of racing dead pedal mounted there. Patch it and go on.

may want to try this....
your problem could in fact be with the sunroof drainage or just past that. the sunroof drains come out in the engine compartment, just near the hood hinges. Check that area for any corroded spots, or even cracks around your brake or clutch cylinders. These areas get weak with age, and some people have even had to weld plates to the area to keep them reinforced.
